Position Hedging Mode and Unidirectional Trading

Modified on Tue, 16 Apr at 12:12 PM

When trading on Binance Futures, there are two available trading modes:

  1. Unidirectional Mode;
  2. Hedging Mode

For more details on trading in hedging mode, you can refer to Binance's article "Cryptocurrency Hedgingand "What is Hedging Mode and How to Use It."

To switch the trading mode on Binance Futures, click on the corresponding icon in the terminal header, toggle the mode, and click "Save":

Please note that to change the trading mode, it is necessary to stop all trading strategies, cancel all orders, and close all positions on all futures trading pairs. Otherwise, attempting to switch the trading mode will result in a warning about the impossibility of the mode change:

Important! When working with the platform across multiple browser tabs/devices, after switching the trading mode on Binance Futures, it is necessary to refresh all other open platform pages to load the changes!

Unidirectional Mode

In unidirectional mode, working with a position is only available in one direction (long or short).

It is not possible to have simultaneously active strategies in both long and short on the same trading pair. Use activation triggers for opposing strategies.

Attempting to activate an opposing strategy before stopping the main one will result in an error: "Error: Activation failed. Insufficient balance." To avoid this, plan your trading to prevent the activation of opposing strategies on the same trading pair.

Hedging Mode

In hedging mode, both long (long) and short (short) positions are supported simultaneously. Two positions of the same asset will offset each other's unrealized profit and loss.

The active hedging mode is displayed in the platform header as a green 'H' symbol:

In hedging mode, each open position will display its own breakeven line and liquidation line. The overall breakeven line in hedging mode is not available for display.
